Wild Uganda Tour 12 Days

This 12-day trip features the northern and eastern regions of Uganda. See Africa's big five wild animals, including the lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo. Other animals to see include giraffes and zebra. Places to visit include Jinja, Sipi Falls, Kidepo Valley National Park, Murchison Falls National Park.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to the hotel

Arrival at Entebbe Airport. Your guide will pick you up and take you to the hotel for relaxation. If you arrive early, you can go on a shoebill excursion and enjoy a canoe ride on the Mamba swamp, where you can search for the unique shoebill stork and other visitor bird species.

Day 2: Drive to Jinja

After breakfast, we will drive to the eastern part of Uganda and stop over in Mabira Forest. You will visit the Ssezibwa Falls, one of the historical places in Uganda. Proceed to Jinja for lunch and seal the day with a visit to the Source of the longest river in Africa, the River Nile.

Day 3: Drive to Sipi Falls

Today, after breakfast, we drive to Sipi Falls, a beautiful crater landscape at the foot of Mount Elgon. We will take a rewarding walk to the three magnificent waterfalls. This area is popular for its breathtaking panoramas and nice villages. In the evening, we will go for sunset viewing and panoramic views of the Karimojong plains. Sipi Falls is Uganda’s highest waterfall, with water falling from a 100-meter-high cliff. Mount Elgon has the world’s largest caldera.

Day 4: Drive to Moroto – Pian Upe Game Reserve

After an early morning breakfast, we embark on our journey to Moroto, driving through local communities to Pian Upe Game Reserve, Uganda’s second-largest conservation area after Murchison Falls National Park. Pian Upe is one of the top places to see wildlife and birds and do activities. We will go on a game drive to look for cheetahs, antelopes, bushbucks, elands, rock hyrax, birds such as the ostrich and Karamoja Apalis, and many more.

Day 5: Cycling in Moroto

Have breakfast and cycle through the Karimojong villages to experience their lifestyles and daily activities. On this day, a community or village walk is also possible.

Day 6: Drive to Kidepo Valley National Park

After having your breakfast, we will drive to Kidepo Valley National Park, one of the best places to see wild animals. Kidepo Valley National Park is among the top national parks in Uganda, with greater chances of seeing predators such as lions and leopards without missing herds of elephants, giraffes, and a vast buffalo population. The Somali Ostrich is a unique species that calls Kidepo Valley National Park home.

Day 7: Full-day game drives in Kidepo Valley National Park

Today, we will go on an early morning game drive, return to the lodge for lunch, and then head out for an evening game drive.

Day 8: Karamojong Cultural Experience

We will do an early morning game drive in the park. After lunch, we will visit a Karamojong village for a unique cultural experience. Enjoy entertainment in the form of local and cultural dances, stories, and cuisine. Then, we will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Drive to Murchison Falls National Park

Today, we drive from Kidepo Valley National Park to Murchison Falls National Park, passing through the countryside and accessing the park through the northern bank. The drive takes about 7 to 8 hours. We will stop over at the Karuma Falls along the way and then proceed to our accommodation inside the park. Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda’s largest and one of the most beautiful national parks. The River Nile is one of the main attractions, especially the spectacular Murchison Falls, where the whole Nile is forced through a narrow gorge 60 meters high with a thunderous roar of water. The national park is home to elephants, lions, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, hyenas, Jackson’s heartbeats, buffaloes, and leopards.

Day 10: Game Drive and Boat Safari on the Nile in the afternoon

After an early morning breakfast, we shall head for a 4–5-hour game drive on the northern bank of the Nile. Expect to see elephants, Rothschild giraffes, Jackson hartebeest, lions, oribis, waterbucks, and various Savannah woodland birds. After lunch, we shall depart for a three-hour Boat launch trip upstream towards the bottom of Murchison Falls and hike to the top. You will see hippos, Nile Crocodiles, and plenty of birdlife. You might also see elephants drinking at the water's edge. Return to the Lodge for Dinner and Overnight.

Day 11: Drive to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

After breakfast, we will drive to the top of Murchison Falls for a stunning view of the world’s most powerful waterfall. Afterwards, we will continue to Budongo Forest, where we will track the enchanting chimpanzees in the afternoon. After chimpanzee tracking, we shall proceed to our accommodation in Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 12: Rhino tracking. Departure

This morning, we will go for rhino tracking in Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is the only place in Uganda where you can see the White Rhino in the wild. After lunch, we will transfer to Entebbe International Airport for your outbound flight.
